Who owns the formula when the project is done?
You do. Completely. Unlike private-label and most custom labs — where the manufacturer keeps the formula and you're locked in — every Cerulean project ends with full ownership transferred to you, documented with a signed Formula Ownership Certificate. Take it to any manufacturer, audit your own costs, sell your brand with its IP intact. We never resell or re-license your formula.
What types of products can you formulate?
If it goes on your body, we can build it: skincare, hair care and styling, body care, deodorant, hygiene products, serums, oils, creams, gels, sprays, balms, pastes, and more. Our chemist has formulated across every topical category.
Do you manufacture the products, or just develop the formula?
Both, at the right scales. We develop your custom formula, run stability and preservative efficacy testing, and can produce pilot batches and small make-and-fill runs in-house. For larger volumes, we transfer your fully documented formula to a contract manufacturer of your choice — and because you own it, you're never locked in.
How long does the formulation process take?
The Formulation Feasibility Sprint takes 2–3 weeks. Full custom development typically runs 3–4 months depending on complexity — products requiring extensive stability work or unusual actives may take longer. You'll get a realistic timeline with your fixed quote.
Who do you work with?
Creators and influencers launching their own products, funded founders building a brand, and established brands that need formulation depth — rescues, reformulations, or new lines. Our engagements start at $5,000, so we're the right fit when you're serious about a premium product, whether it's your first or your fiftieth.
What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
There's no traditional MOQ for formulation work, and our in-house small runs are designed for launch and validation quantities. For large-volume production, MOQs depend on the contract manufacturer you choose — we help you select one that fits your scale and manage the tech transfer.
Can you help with packaging, labels, and claims?
While packaging design isn't our core service, we provide guidance on INCI ingredient labeling, regulatory-compliant claims, and allergen disclosures. We can also connect you with trusted label designers and packaging suppliers.
What does custom formulation cost?
Custom projects start at $5,000 and typically range from $5,000 to $25,000+ depending on scope and complexity. Most clients begin with our $5,000 Formulation Feasibility Sprint: in 2–3 weeks you get a technical brief, benchmark teardown, early prototypes, a development roadmap, and a fixed quote — and the Sprint fee credits toward full development.
